Dallas amp reviews12/29/2023 The distortion was pretty fuzzy and grungy with those settings, so I decided to start from scratch and dial all of the parameters to neutral, 12 o’clock positions. I quickly discovered that those general settings don’t really work on this amp! First of all, with the 1x12 closed-back PRS speaker cabinet, the bass response was rumbling and plentiful, so there was no need to crank the Bass up all the way. My first instinct was to dial in my favorite distortion setting on a tube amp-Treble and Middle up half way, Bass and Volume (gain) cranked, with the Master Volume up a couple of notches. When some people test-drive a new car, they immediately want to see how fast the thing goes. I naturally chose a PRS Mira X guitar with humbucking pickups for the initial test drive. I wasted no time in setting everything up and plugging in. I received a PRS 30 head for review along with a 1x12 PRS speaker cabinet. For those guitarists who weren’t crazy about the paisley look of the original PRS amps, they will be happy to know that the PRS 30 amps, along with the Sweet 16 and the accompanying new speaker cabinets, come in the new PRS tuxedo (black and white) tolex, which makes for a very classy look. The rear panel stays simple with an impedance selector, a fuse compartment, and an extension jack included in parallel with the speaker out jack. The front panel of the PRS 30 includes controls for Volume, Reverb, Treble, Middle, Bass and Master Volume as well as a bright switch, a power switch and one input jack. The amps are handmade in Stevensville, MD, and are available in head and combo versions. It also features a 3-spring Reverb with medium decay, and a special Master Volume that is dialed out of the circuit as the amp volume reaches the maximum setting. The preamp section includes two 12AX7 tubes and two 12AT7 tubes. Now, Paul Reed Smith is rolling out a series of lower wattage amps, including the 16-watt Sweet 16 and a new 30-watt cathode biased amp called the PRS 30.ĭescribed as “an English sound with an American twist,” the PRS 30 features a quartet of EL84 tubes and a control layout similar to the PRS Dallas amp. PRS released the Blue Sierra, the Dallas, and the Original Sewell tube amps to rave reviews. With a tip of the hat to both classic American as well as British amps, PRS produced a line of amps that catered to the needs of varied playing styles and served up some distinct and unique tonal possibilities. Paul Reed Smith joined forces with master amp designer Doug Sewell and collaborated for nearly four years before unveiling the highly anticipated PRS tube amp line in early 2009. The company known for making amazing looking and sounding guitars is quickly gaining a reputation for making high-quality amps as well. Paul Reed Smith seems to be headed in that direction. It’s a rare and difficult task to create guitars and amps of equally high quality, and then to be able to maintain those high standards and good reputation. Perhaps many believe that since their guitars are a big hit, they can easily branch out and manufacture amps that will be just as successful some guitar companies do okay, while others fail miserably. Many guitar manufacturers try their hand at making amplifiers, to varying degrees of success. PRS Mira X, switching pickups.Īll clips recorded with a Shure SM57 into Digidesign Pro Tools. Marta bus hit car12/29/2023 Thanks to the region's sprawl, commuting patterns in Metro Atlanta are much less typical than in other cities, making it harder for MARTA to serve people's needs with traditional hub-and-spoke trips. Instead, a sprawling city needs a sprawling transit agency. To thrive in its new expanded form, MARTA must embrace this reality. Now more than ever, Atlantans need to go from suburb to suburb more than they need to go downtown. Four in five Clayton commuters work somewhere other than Atlanta at the same time, four in five people who work in Clayton County don't live there. If you’ve ever been in a situation with MARTA buses, contact our MARTA bus accident attorney.Like Atlanta's aptly named Perimeter Center Mall, the new center of MARTA's network may well be at the perimeter. Lastly, MARTA appeals the size of the attorney’s fees awarded to the plaintiff’s counsel, arguing that the amount is too and was not correctly calculated by the trial judge. Additionally, MARTA argues that the trial court erred in charging the jury on spoliation of evidence related to the missing potions of the video from the bus that showed the fall.Īt trial, the jury heard evidence that MARTA lost or destroyed the entire video file and only preserved that portion of the video that showed Ms. In its’ appeal, MARTA argues that it did not breach a duty owed to Johnson because it lacked knowledge of any specific infirmities that would require assisting her in disembarking from the bus. The Court of appeals has granted MARTA’s request for oral argument. The case is an important one for Georgia citizens, particularly for those with disabilities who use MARTA for public transportation. The Georgia Court of appeals case number is A21A0626. MARTA’s opening appeal brief was filed on December 14, 2020, and the plaintiff’s response brief was filed on January 4, 2021. This Motion was denied, and MARTA filed a Notice of appeal on September 3, 2020. Predictably, MARTA hired new lawyers, filed a Motion For New Trial, and objected to the attorney’s fees award. Jaccolah Johnson was 66 years old when she fell while exiting a MARTA paratransit bus on January 24, 2016. Surprising no one, given the nature of her injury, shortly after the trial of the case in the fall of 2018, Ms. Jaccolah Johnsonīy all accounts, Johnson- a bubbly and wonderful person-was left immobile, unresponsive, and required 24/7 care. Within hours she developed a brain bleed that necessitated emergency surgery to save her life but left Johnson functionally unconscious. The predictable result was that Johnson, given her well-documented mobility issues, stumbled and fell, striking her head on the concrete curb below. And so it was for Jaccolah Johnson when she arranged to be transported by one of MARTA’s Mobility Services buses.Īlthough MARTA policies and training required the driver to “shadow” passengers when exiting the bus-mostly because of an awkward and new design of the entry/exit steps on this particular bus – MARTA’s employee here did no such thing. The case involved MARTA’s Mobility Services program, which caters to paying public transportation users who need a little extra time or assistance because of various mobility or other health issues. MARTA ignored the offer, and the case proceeded to trial. Plaintiff had offered to settle the case for $5,000,000. The Judge granted the fees under the plaintiff’s Motion for Attorney’s fees based upon MARTA’s failure to accept the plaintiff’s Offer of Judgment under O.C.G.A. He specializes in cases involving severe injury and wrongful death.įollowing the case’s trial, the Court awarded attorney’s fees of $3,250,000 and expenses in the amount of $63,040.25. Singleton has been practicing personal injury law in Atlanta for thirty (30) years. Jaccolah Johnson, through her Guardian and Conservator, her daughter, Rachel Tyler, are represented by Atlanta Personal Injury attorney, Donald W. This is the largest jury verdict ever recovered against the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA). The jury also found plaintiff to be 25% responsible, and the verdict was reduced accordingly to $18,750,000.00. On November 8, 2018, a Fulton County jury returned a record verdict in favor of the plaintiff, awarding damages to the plaintiff of $25,000,000. Today, the state is home to four excursions and all offer something a little different, from dining aboard the West Virginia Central and Potomac Eagle Scenic to open-air cars on the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley. The new Cass Scenic Railroad, which began as just a novelty, launched service on June 15, 1963. It took a few years but he was eventually successful in convincing the state to acquire the property as a state park. He had a longtime interest in the old logging operation and wished to see it preserved for future generations. The seeds of which became Cass Scenic were planted by Russell Baum in 1960, a local railfan from Sunbury, Pennsylvania. West Virginia's history with modern-day tourist railroads began in the early 1960's when the Cass Scenic Railroad opened to the public over tracks that had long been used for logging purposes. Today, the Association of American Railroads lists only 2,214 miles remaining, following the abandonment of coal branches and components of other through routes. Historian John Stover's book, " The Routledge Historical Atlas Of The American Railroads ," notes the state's mileage peaked at 3,996 in 1920. There was also the C&O, Virginian, and N&W serving rich coal seams in the state's southern periphery. It was joined by the Western Maryland Railway (WM) which headed south from Cumberland to Elkins, a town which blossomed into a major WM coal terminus. Link it up cool math games12/29/2023 Some of my friends’ kids would play it much longer and every day of the week if given the opportunity. My kids look forward to playing this math game, which k12 recommends practicing between 10-20 minutes per day. It beats doing timed worksheets and flash cards, though we still do those, because kids can do them independently while parents make lunch, take care of other kids, etc. This is a fun way, especially for budding scientists, to practice. Kids need to memorize their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. However, people who do not have K12 can access it for free on their XGerms Multiplication. Many people access these games through the K12 curriculum. This means that computers and mobile devices (not iphone) can run this program. XGerms is available for any device equipped with Flash. But, if you want all everything associated with XGerms removed from your computer you could erase your cookies as well as click remove player on this page. Technically, XGerms isn’t on your computer. How to Delete XGerms from your computer or device If your child uses different computers to access xgerms, their progress will not transfer from one computer to another. Red means that the student either ran out of time, answered incorrectly, or took a long time to answer the question.Īs long as their avatar information isn’t deleted from the computer, the student can work on xgerms until they have filled out the entire xgrid, no matter how many days it takes. Yellow mean that they know the fact, but they could answer more quickly. The more green dots on the chart, the more proficient the student is with their math facts. One way for parents to keep track of progress is to look at the x-grid. No red hearts means that germ is tired and ready to be captured. Red hearts mean the germ has full strength. You’ll know how you’re progressing by looking at the hearts. 5 math problems solved correctly must be answered. This task isn’t as easy as capturing the smaller germs. Once the red runs out, you’re out of time. First the green will disappear, then the yellow, then the red. You’ll notice that there is a bar with red, yellow, and green (left to right). There is a timer above the math question. Their second goal is to solve math problems as quickly as possible. Their goal is to solve the questions correctly so they don’t waste goop. After that, they won’t need to do this step.įirst, the kids must solve problems to capture the smaller germs that surround, and protect, the big germ. This only needs to be done the first time the math game is played. The next step is to select a germ to capture. This makes it possible for multiple children to play xgerms and keep track of their progress on the same computer- though not at the simultaneously. As you can see from the graphic below, there are many options for the avatar’s appearance. Your child will be able to set up their avatar. Once those germs are captured, kids answer a few questions so they can capture the big germ. The goal is to capture a bunch of little germs. For every question they get right, they capture a germ in the germ lab. In this game, the kids answer addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or a combination of each of these the types of questions. In this post, I’ll tell you about XGerms by k12. I find that having a few different methods at my disposal increases my kids’ interest and willingness to practice. I compiled a list of cool math games and activities that reinforce important math facts that I’ve used over the years. Other times, I notice that my kids need to practice their basic math facts so that they can move on to more complicated problems. When they’re in the first few grades of elementary school, that can be pretty hard for them to do. There are times when I want my kids to work on their school work independently because I need to take care of some other business.

Uncut gems based on true events12/29/2023 The film smartly places the highest stakes on Howard, gambling everything on dicey odds on a basketball game, all while placing the audience in a strange position – at once immersed in his emotional viewpoint, and seeing the camera observe him from the eye level of the loan sharks forced to watch the game with him. The most memorable set piece in Uncut Gems simply sees a risky bet unfold. The Safdies and their frequent collaborator Ronald Bronstein (who writes and/or edits all their features since Daddy Longlegs) work hard to make the audience understand the necessity and compulsion driving these actions, partly by exploring the risks of addiction in the script. Perhaps Connie is just addicted to being the smartest guy in the room, revelling in his ability to bend others to his will. Good Time perhaps shows notable exception, as protagonist Connie Nikas (a grimy, frantic Robert Pattinson) hustles or hurts everybody, but always for the sake of his brother. Heaven Knows What, based on the true story of its lead actress, grapples with heroin addiction, and the various cycles that spring from it. In Uncut Gems it’s gambling in The Pleasure of Being Robbed it’s kleptomania. Though capable of committing monstrous acts, these characters aren’t monsters – the acts performed are often rooted in a form of addiction. In the case of Howard Ratner, the central figure in the filmmakers’ latest film Uncut Gems, the man is cheating failure and/or death by staying on the move, constantly taking bigger risks both to save himself, and to satisfy a compulsion that he simply can’t shake. Whether it’s Good Time’s bank robber scrambling to accrue the bail money to get his brother out of prison, or the lead of Heaven Knows What simply trying to get through the next day, in one way or another, the filmmakers’ last four features have been focused on the preciousness and precariousness of living on borrowed time, each character clawing to hold on to something so specific, often at the expense of everyone around them. To be a protagonist in a film by the Safdie brothers is to consistently struggle to keep your head above water, as your greatest weaknesses continually threaten to drag you into the depths.

Fat cat quincy ma12/28/2023 In the past we’ve also gotten the fried dill pickle appetizer which was very unique and tasty…dill pickle slices lightly battered and fried and served with a dipping sauce.Īt last our table was ready and we moved into the dining room side of the space. It was served with a slightly spicy remoulade. The calamari came in a paper cone and lightly fried and tossed with lightly fried cherry peppers and black olive slices. We ordered some calamari at the bar while we waited for our table. I got the Pink Panther which was one of their house special cocktails. We ordered a couple of drinks…All of Fat Cat’s specialty cocktails have cat-themed names. The bar itself is stylin’ with an off-white mock-crocodile bar top. My husband was happy as a clam with the sitting at the bar situation since they were playing the Sox game on the flat screens hanging over the bar. We waited in the bar area which takes up the entire length of one side of the restaurant. Fat Cat feels like it would be right at home in Cambridge or the South End. The decor is casual and industrial-chic, with visible heating ducts, wooden beams, and exposed brick walls. The interior of Fat Cat is kind of small with the room divided down the middle by a half-height wall to split the room into a bar side and a dining room side. We showed up at 8 PM on a Saturday night with our party of 2 and the wait for a table was 30-45 minutes. Fat Cat doesn’t take reservations and they won’t seat you until your entire party has arrived. Open daily for lunch and dinner, The Fat Cat is located at 24 Chestnut Street in downtown Quincy, Massachusetts.Ĭall 61 or visit Fat Cat is located just off of Quincy Center. For its cool atmosphere, comfort-food menu and commitment to quality, service and value, The Fat Cat will earn the Gold Plate. Busy as he was on the weekend night we visited, our amiable server never made us feel rushed nor neglected, checking in periodically with a friendly "how's everything." With appetizers in the $7 range, entrees $10 to $27 and desserts $6, The Fat Cat offers incredible value. The brownie in the brownie sundae, was more cake-like in texture and the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake had neither the heft, nor creaminess we prefer. Desserts were a few whiskers short of greatness. The substantial fillet, topped with beefsteak tomato, Parmesan and served over a primavera vegetable saute, was both appetizing and artful. And the baked haddock was no ordinary hunk of fish under the masterful hand of Executive Chef Thomas Coleman. A huge bowl of four-cheese cavatappi pasta, topped with marinated tomato slices, panko and beef tips was outrageously delicious. We went with the steak mac and have to say that The Fat Cat's take on this standard, had us purring. We couldn't say no, to the gourmet mac n cheese, offered either plain or with a choice of seven varieties of protein. This popular appetizer deserves a little dressing up…but the house made roasted corn salsa was astonishingly good. The smoked chicken quesadilla was right on the money flavor-wise, but the presentation was bland. The lightly battered sour rounds, were a tempting treat, made even more amazing by an incredible Cajun remoulade. For starters, we dived into a massive order of fried dill pickle slices.

Great vowel shift definition12/28/2023 However, this area is uniquely influenced by the acoustic accouterments associated with the gay identity which include fronting of back vowels and merging vowel sounds found in words such as cot and caught. The region of California that includes the Silicon Valley and the populous cities of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose utilizes the same speech vowel shifts as their native Northern California neighbors in regards to vowel shortening and centralization of the diphthong in words such as boat or coat. These shifts in vowel shortening and centralization, while not entirely unique to the region of Northern California natives, does represent the most obvious changes that are occurring within the area in regards to native speech acts. Additionally, Northern California speech acts are centralizing the sound that occurs in words such as boat (/oʊ/). Short front vowels that used to be higher are shifting to lower vowel spaces in native Northern California speech acts involving the vowels /i/, /ɛ/ and /æ/. In Northern California, there is a chain vowel shift occurring. While linguists recognize that not all native Californians have shifted their vowels to these placements within their speech acts, it is prevalent enough to recognize the chain shift that is occurring in the largest Western state. Since California is such a large state, and home to millions of people from diverse ethnic origins and backgrounds, California has seen vowel shifts within its own borders, allowing linguists to see phonological differences between Northern, Southern and Bay Area regions of California. Another identifying feature of CVS is the raising or backing of the vowel /æ/ such as that found in cat, depending on its linguistic environment and whether it is pre-nasal or not. These include the low back vowel mergers of words such as bought and bot, fronting of back vowels /oʊ/ as in coat and /ʊ/ in nook or look, as well as that which is found in words such as loot or hoot. To exemplify this Southern vowel change, the vowel in the word “bed” is commonly used, as the “e” moves upward and gains a glide and causes the word to be pronounced more like “bayd.”Ĭalifornia Vowel Shift (CVS) has several identifying features. In contrast to the changes in the North, however, the Southern Cities Vowel Shift is characterized by the shorter, front vowels moving upward and adopting the characteristics of traditionally longer vowels. In addition to the Northern Cities Vowel Shift, the dialect change patterns that are taking place in the South also indicate undeniable pronunciation changes in the region. This vowel rotation, for example, is noticeable as the vowel sound in “coffee” is moving toward the vowel in “father.” While there are undoubtedly several other change patterns that define the shift in the Northern Cities, they are diffusing throughout the North in a unique manner, and are inherently different from dialect shifts taking place in other regions. This change pattern is characterized by the longer and lower vowels moving forward and upward, while the shorter vowels move downward and backward. One of the several major vowel shifts that is currently underway in the US is the Northern Cities Vowel Shift. Among the Semitic languages, the Canaanite languages underwent a shift in which Proto-Semitic *ā became ō in Proto-Canaanite (a language likely very similar to Biblical Hebrew).Ī vowel shift can involve a merger of two previously different sounds, or it can be a chain shift. The Greek language also underwent a vowel shift near the beginning of the Common Era, which included iotacism. The best-known example in the English language is the Great Vowel Shift, which began in the 15th century. A vowel shift is a systematic sound change in the pronunciation of the vowel sounds of a language.

Nirvana unplugged videos12/28/2023 The mastering in this is perfect however, with each instrument being crisp and clear. Perhaps this is done to provide the album with a ‘fresh’ and positive sound before delving into more darker musical tones, but in a weird way, it sounds like a slightly angstier version of ‘Celebrity Skin’ by Hole. I can get with it, but the modulation towards a major scale throws me off. More melodic guitars enter the soundscape, painting a picture typical of ‘angsty’, teenage rock music. Besides the song, and throughout the entire album, the drummer truly shines in giving the group’s songs with the structure and direction it needs. The song starts with youthful, punk-influenced riffs accented and modulated with the steadfast beat of the drummer. Will the painting of the tapestry of post-grunge rock be revitalized in this album? It has a charm and beauty to it, analogous to a painter attempting to restore an old painting. It is a different path in music production, as you really don’t have to rush to keep up with newer genres that employ all kinds of novel production techniques. To be fair, if you are a revivalist act, you have all the time to polish your genre and deliver a certain kind of feel and nostalgia. It is also rare to find an artist that produces a stellar body of work even after a 17 year hiatus. It is rare to find a breakthrough artist with as much acclaim as LongRoad- their debut album, ‘This Too Shall Pass’ met with great reception. LongRoad is no exception to this cyclic rehash. Understandably, many artists grew up with that genre resonating with them at one point of their music evolution- some of us move on, some of us branch out, but some of us become trailblazers in the genre itself. The exposure to bands like Nirvana does not leave without memories entangled with it. It’s a genre that has had its impact in the cuneiform tablets marking the evolution of music. Once again, as I’ve written before, the permeability and universality of 90s grunge and revivalist acts is hard to truly ignore.
